FAREWELL MONTANA

In late 2021, Montana Look successfully completed her Diploma of Leadership and Management.

The diploma is the second traineeship that Montana has completed in three years with SCHLAM after finishing her Cert III in Business Administration in 2019 at the company’s Waroona facility.

While the training took up a significant chunk of time, Montana says it flew by in the blink of an eye.

“I’d like to thank everyone who has helped me achieve this qualification, especially Rob, Sheree and Colleen, who have been my mentors and have been there for me every step of the way,” said Montana proudly.

“I’m grateful that the company put so much faith in me and allowed me to develop my skills.”

The training didn’t go unnoticed, both inside and outside the company, and soon after completing her training, Montana took up a role as a Controller Trainee at BHP.

Montana says that she’s excited to start her new role, but it would never have been a career path she would’ve taken without getting a taste for it in her traineeship.

“Coming out of school, I would never have picked this job or even working in the mining industry but seeing huge pieces of equipment coming into our workshop to be refurbished changed my mind pretty quickly,” said Montana.

Montana’s ex-colleagues – now friends – said that she was a quick learner.

“We could tell right from the start that she was going to be an asset to the team. She found her feet quickly and was always proactive,” said Sheree Hiller, Schlam Project Manager.“

Throughout her employment Montana’s confidence and knowledge grew very rapidly. She was extremely organized, had great attention to detail, and consistently looked for ways to make her job, and the jobs of those around her easier. She also had a thirst for knowledge, so was constantly looking for new challenges.”

The team at Waroona said that while they will miss her positive attitude and her willingness to help with anything, Montana left as a very confident, well-liked member of the Schlam Team.

“It was wonderful having someone who just went about her job without having to be asked or checked on. If she was given a task, you could be sure it would be done, and done to the required standard.”

“Likewise, if someone was away, I wouldn’t have to ask her to take on other people’s workloads – she would recognise the absence and pick up the additional work without being asked.

“As she started as a trainee admin, then moved to projects she was cross-trained in many different areas of the Waroona operation – something that is invaluable when working in such a small team,” said Sheree.
