EXECUTIVE CHAIR & GROUP CEO
David has significant experience in the mining services industry through previous roles with CQMS Razer (CR Mining) – a global name in IP, engineering, software, and manufacturing.
He oversaw the company as its President and CEO for over nine years, expanding the company internationally and diversifying its product lines to include digital technologies. On top of his work in the resources industry, David has achieved results in both well-known public corporations as well as rapidly developing private equity investments across a range of sectors, including healthcare, digital technology, consumer appliances, building materials and services, energy efficiency, household consumables and energy.
Colin Bell has held a range of executive roles and CEO positions in corporate, not for profit and SME businesses over the past three decades.
He first came into contact with Schlam when he mentored company founder and director Ryan Schlam as part of the Curtin Growth Program for SMEs, a practical course that helps owners maximise the potential of their business, which he was part of for two decades.
Colin spearheaded the delivery of Schlam’s Leadership & Management Program where the business upskilled 16 managers from across all areas of the business.
FOUNDER AND DIRECTOR
Ryan entered the family business in 2001, following his tenure at a range of mining companies across WA where he immersed himself in a variety of roles.
He took over as managing director of Schlam in 2013 and captained the company through a period of rapid growth, which included multiple acquisitions, product additions and expansion into new markets and premises.
Ryan’s technical expertise and engineering mindset have helped to grow Schlam into one of Western Australia’s largest family-owned mining services companies with products and maintenance people working across mines on six continents.
Outside of being the company’s Founder and Director, Ryan is also a technical expert who adds a unique dimension to Schlam’s already extensive engineering division.
In his spare time, Ryan is passionate about motorcycles and stand-up comedy.
CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Matt Thomas is an experienced CEO who has previously held similar positions with Coffey International, ASCO Group and hard rock mineral seismic exploration company HiSeis.
Matt brings to Schlam expertise in building and mentoring high-performance teams, in-depth knowledge of the mining and minerals industry, and a commitment to the company’s strategic vision and ideology.
Outside of the office, the CEO enjoys golf, running, gardening and is an avid West Coast Eagles supporter.
CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER & COMPANY SECRETARY
Ron Kurniadi is Schlam’s Chief Financial Officer. He brings with him extensive experience gathered from similar roles in both Australia and South East Asia at companies such as Clough, AGC and UGL.
He has 20 years’ experience in contracting in resources and infrastructure projects as well as 15 years of international experience based in Asia.
Ron is a certified public accountant with a Bachelor of Commerce and a Master of Applied Finance.
Ron enjoys golf, travel and reading.
GROUP GENERAL MANAGER
Glenn has over 25 years’ experience working in the engineering and manufacturing sectors. He has a Diploma of Mechanical Engineering and has completed various leadership and management studies.
He began his career as an apprentice Toolmaker and quickly worked his way into leadership roles, spending the last 13 years in senior positions. He has overseen many large projects during this time for major clients such as Rio Tinto, BHP, FMG, Glencore and other overseas customers within the APAC region.
Glenn is a proactive advocate for mental health and wellbeing programs and seeks to build a team culture fostered with a high level of emotional intelligence.
In his spare time, the GM enjoys motorcycle riding, cabinet making, and spending time with his family.
GENERAL MANAGER – OPERATIONS
Ryan Archibald took up the role of General Manager of Operations for Schlam in 2020.
He has over 22 years’ experience in project management, estimating, risk management and client communication.
In previous roles, Ryan successfully implemented health and safety initiatives at companies such as Minprovise, Mineral Resources Limited, DWA and RCR Tomlinson.
Ryan is a passionate supporter of Men’s Health WA and is interested in home renovations and car restorations outside of the office.
FABRICATION SERVICES MANAGER
Daniel Hilmi took up the role of Fabrication Services Manager for Schlam in 2019.
He has over 15 years of experience and strives for high-quality outcomes and satisfied customers. He has a Certificate III in Heavy Fabrication and is currently working on completing his Diploma of Business Management.
He has vast experience overseeing off-site repair refurbishments, major HME on-site and fixed plant projects and shutdown works.
Tom has an honours degree in mechanical engineering from the university of western australia and a background in asset management.
He originally joined the team to oversee the asset management of all buckets and dump bodies at the boddington gold mine for schlam before moving into a design role.
Tom head’s up schlam’s in-house engineering team. He has helped develop and manage east coast and international manufacturing to allow the company’s footprint and output to increase significantly.
He loves all sports and plays football and touch rugby and is always looking for the next opportunity to go on a snowboarding trip.
GROUP HSEQ MANAGER
Trevor Cugley started as Schlam’s HSEQ Manager in May 2019 bringing with him more than 25 years of safety and quality experience.
Trevor drives continuous improvement to deliver the best HSEQ outcomes and solutions to our employees and customers in line with Schlam’s Ideology and purpose.
Across his career, Trevor has worked with many notable companies including BHP, Newcrest, Chevron and Alcoa on projects such as Newmont’s Tanami Expansion Project and Ford’s decommissioning program with AECOM.
Trevor holds a post-graduate diploma of Occupational Health and Safety Management and numerous other Health, Safety and Quality related accreditations.
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER
Darren is a qualified electrical fitter mechanic with over 25 years’ experience in fixed plant and mobile equipment maintenance in open pit mining operations.
Darren is an innovative problem solver with a passion for improving safety and realising efficiencies in mining operations.
He has been working for Schlam since 2015 and now holds the role of business development manager and director of both TPCM and Track Straight.
Darren is an avid supporter of red cross and enjoys off road motorcycle riding, fishing, camping, and sailing with family in his spare time.
EA / HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGER
Anna has worked within the mining industry for over 30 years, including for Wigmores Tractors, Morgan Equipment and WesTrac. In that time, she has worked across of range of roles including in purchasing and procurement, executive assistance, and recruitment and human resources. Her varied knowledge of the industry gives her a unique perspective on how to select and retain talented individuals who live and breathe Schlam’s ideology.
Her role encompasses recruitment, training, development, employee relations and culture. Anna plays a crucial role in implementing Schlam’s growth strategies through the recruitment function to ensure we are well-positioned to respond to the requirements of our clients.
Anna frequently donates blood and can be found boating, camping, walking and spending time with family outside of work.
GENERAL MANAGER – SALES & BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT – PAYLOAD SOLUTIONS
Ben is a trade qualified Heavy Diesel Mechanic with over 16 years of MEM experience. He has a Cert III in Engineering (plant mechanical) and a Cert III in Automotive (mechanical). Ben has also completed a Diploma of Management and Green Belt in Six Sigma. Ben joined Schlam in 2019 after working for OEM’s, dealerships and contractors in a range of roles from workshop-based, mine site-based, field service, maintenance planning, technical support and sales management.
Ben endeavours to remain up-to-date with developments within the mining industry and working in an environment that allows him to diversify and learn continuously. He has played a pivotal role in building a high functioning sales division at Schlam who are humble, dedicated, customer-focused with a clear collective goal of ensuring our customer’s experience is exceptional.
MARKETING AND BRAND MANAGER
Jono is Schlam’s Marketing and Brand Manager, where he specialises in implementing strategic marketing and communications initiatives including digital and traditional.
He led Schlam’s rebrand as well as the successful rollout of its new ideology to both internal and external stakeholders. Jono assists Schlam’s sales and recruitment teams by generating demand using tactics such as social media, video and thought leadership.
Jono has over 20 years’ experience and has previously held roles as a journalist working in the Middle East.
He is a car enthusiast and die-hard Eagles fan with a passion for the arts.
GENERAL MANAGER – MECHANICAL AND FIELD SERVICES
Mathew Rigby is a results-oriented management professional with a passion for change, building new businesses and creating high-performance teams. With over 25 years of experience in the mining equipment industry, Mat has demonstrated major success in driving change and improvement during periods of business growth. Tenacious in forging strong relationships among his team, Mat most recently led Schlam to become certified as a ‘Great Place to Work®’ – just six months after being awarded the 2022 RISE Business Awards – Western Australian Employer of the Year.
A safety-focused, intuitive leader who inspires high productivity, Mat is passionate about developing people and supporting this team to grow beyond what they think is possible.
Rob heads up Schlam’s Waroona branch where he leads a large multi-disciplined team with a proven commitment to all aspects of health, safety, and quality.
He has over 20 years’ experience in construction and maintenance management in the mining, processing, chemical and fabrication industry in Australia, the Middle East and Europe.
When not working he enjoys overland motorcycle riding, cycling, adventure racing and mountaineering.
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER
Ian is Schlam’s Business Development Manager, where he strives to build productive relationships to ensure customers are delivered quality products and services.
Ian has a strong background in the logistics and supply sector and over 20 years’ experience working within the mining industry.
When not helping customers, Ian can be found in his garden or with his feet buried at the beach.
GROUP MANAGER – PEOPLE AND CULTURE
Jessica is an MBTI(R) Certified Practitioner who has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Law and Marketing. Jess has over 20 years of experience across all areas of Human Resources.
Jessica has led various teams within the spectrum of human resources including recruitment, talent acquisition, employee relations, learning and development, and corporate HR strategy. Jessica is passionate about creating a modern and agile workforce in a fast-changing environment with a focus on creating effective leadership across organisations without traditional barriers.
Outside of the office, Jess likes to spend time with family including her two young daughters.
MANAGING DIRECTOR – PAYLOAD SOLUTIONS
Hendrik has proven multi-site, international manufacturing excellence experience and is responsible for transforming our manufacturing and engineering centres into world class operations. Hendrik has spent most of his career in the resources sector and advanced manufacturing environments within BHP, Fortescue Metals, ChemChina and Qenos. Hendrik joined Schlam in late 2022. Hendrik is a Metallurgist with a Master of Science and a Master of Business Leadership
