David has significant experience in the mining services industry through previous roles with CQMS Razer (CR Mining) – a global name in IP, engineering, software, and manufacturing.

He oversaw the company as its President and CEO for over nine years, expanding the company internationally and diversifying its product lines to include digital technologies.

On top of his work in the resources industry, David has achieved results in both well-known public corporations as well as rapidly developing private equity investments across a range of sectors, including healthcare, digital technology, consumer appliances, building materials and services, energy efficiency, household consumables and energy.



Ryan Schlam’s journey as a boilermaker apprentice in his father’s precision welding business in Yarloop ignited his entrepreneurial spirit, propelling him to transform Schlam into one of Western Australia’s leading privately owned mining services companies.

At the ripe age of 25, Ryan took the reins of the family business, becoming the sole owner of Schlam and ushering in a new era of growth and success.

Assuming the role of Managing Director in 2013, Ryan steered Schlam through a period of rapid expansion, marked by strategic acquisitions, innovative product additions, and the exploration of new markets and premises. Now, Ryan holds the Directorship role at Schlam and continues to be a visionary for Schlam Group. 

With a solid foundation built on core values, a dedication to fostering relationships, and an unwavering passion, Ryan’s unwavering vision for the company has remained steadfast.

Beyond his role as the company’s Founder and Director, Ryan brings a unique dimension to Schlam’s extensive engineering division as a technical expert.

In his leisure time, Ryan indulges his passions for motorcycles and stand-up comedy, further showcasing his diverse interests and dynamic personality.



Colin Bell brings a wealth of experience from his numerous executive roles and CEO positions in corporate, non-profit, and SME businesses over the past thirty years.

His connection with Schlam began when he served as a mentor to company founder and director Ryan Schlam through the Curtin Growth Program for SMEs. This program, focused on maximizing business potential, was a part of Colin’s life for an impressive two decades.

Taking the lead, Colin played a pivotal role in implementing Schlam’s Leadership & Management Program. This initiative successfully upskilled 16 managers across all areas of the business, driving growth and development.



Ron Kurniadi is Schlam’s Chief Financial Officer. He brings with him extensive experience gathered from similar roles in both Australia and South East Asia at companies such as Clough, AGC and UGL.

He has 20 years’ experience in contracting in resources and infrastructure projects as well as 15 years of international experience based in Asia.

Ron is a certified public accountant with a Bachelor of Commerce and a Master of Applied Finance.

Ron enjoys golf, travel and reading.




Hendrik has proven multi-site, international manufacturing excellence experience and is responsible for transforming our manufacturing and engineering centres into world class operations. Hendrik has spent most of his career in the resources sector and advanced manufacturing environments within BHP, Fortescue Metals, ChemChina and Qenos. Hendrik joined Schlam in late 2022. Hendrik is a Metallurgist with a Master of Science and a Master of Business Leadership



Ben is a trade qualified Heavy Diesel Mechanic with over 19 years of industry experience. He has a Cert III in Engineering (Plant Mechanical). Ben has also completed a Diploma of Management and Green Belt in Six Sigma.

Ben joined Schlam in 2019 after working for OEM’s, dealerships and contractors in a range of roles including workshop-based, mine site-based, field service, maintenance planning, technical support and sales management.


Ben endeavours to remain up-to-date with developments within the mining industry and working in an environment that allows him to diversify and learn continuously. He has played a pivotal role in building a high functioning sales division at Schlam who are humble, dedicated, customer-focused, and with a clear collective goal of ensuring our customer’s experience is exceptional. 

Santhanakrishnan Sabapathi

Head of Engineering

Santhana received his Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Degree from the University of Madras in India. He has 24 years of industry experience with leading OEMs such as Caterpillar, Larsen & Toubro, JCB, and SANY. His Mining experience includes design and development of mobile and stationary crushers, rope shovel components, dragline buckets, hydraulic mining shovel components, and underground loader buckets.

Santhana excels in end-to-end product development, offering leadership across engineering teams in enterprises of all sizes. His notable achievements encompass the successful implementation of a new Product Lifecycle Management System, standardization of the product matrix, and the establishment of industry-standard processes like the New Product Introduction Process (NPI).

Amit Bareja

Vice President Innovation & Strategic Projects

With profound expertise in mobile mining equipment, particularly in Mining Trucks and Excavators, Amit brings substantial experience to the senior team at Schlam Payload. In his remarkable career at Rio Tinto, he led the Global Practice and Performance Asset Management team, providing engineering, technical, and asset management services to optimize risk, performance, and cost over asset life cycles.

Amit played a key role in a strategic review of Rio Tinto’s Development and Technology division. Earlier in his career, he managed maintenance services in India and the Pilbara regions for heavy mobile mining equipment, following a tenure as a Maintenance Engineer at Tom Price and Marandoo mine sites.

Holder of a Bachelor of Engineering – Mechanical degree from the Birla Institute of Technology, Amit initiated his career in coal operations with Tata Steel. His diverse experience and leadership roles underscore his commitment to excellence in the mobile mining equipment field.

Andrew Turner

General Manager – MANUFACTURING

Andrew boasts over 25 years of experience in the manufacturing, fabrication, and engineering industries. He has effectively led large multicultural workshop teams, ensuring the production of high-quality products for sectors such as mining, construction, and transportation.

Andrew excels in applying lean principles and automation to optimize production processes, prioritizing safety, quality, and cost reduction.

Andrew holds a Bachelor of Business degree in Accounting, Tax and Business Economics and Finance.

Chad Tait

General Manager Asset Management

Chad is a certified Boilermaker with more than 22 years of expertise in welding and fabrication across mining and manufacturing sectors. Holding a Cert IV in Engineering (Heavy Fabrication), he has garnered multiple certifications from Weld Australia and CSWIP for weld inspection and supervision. In addition to a Diploma of Management, Chad is a qualified welding specialist.

Having joined Schlam in 2019, Chad brings a wealth of experience from his roles in Tier 1 mining companies, OEMs, and heavy engineering contractors. His diverse background spans workshop-based, mine site-based, project management, technical support, and sales management.

Remaining abreast of the latest welding technology developments in the mining industry, Chad thrives in an environment that fosters continuous learning and diversification. His pivotal role at Schlam includes spearheading the development of a high-functioning East coast team known for their humility, dedication, customer-centric approach, and shared commitment to ensuring an exceptional customer experience.

Tom Smith

Global Product Manager

Tom Smith is a seasoned professional in the field of engineering and product management, currently serving as the Global Product Manager at Schlam. With a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Western Australia, Tom brings a solid foundation of technical expertise to his role.

Tom’s journey at Schlam spans over a decade, during which he has held diverse roles both on-site and in the office, gaining valuable experience throughout the business. He spent over 2 years as Schlam’s Engineering Manager, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s engineering direction and spearheading innovative projects such as the development of the Hercules EXO body. More recently, Tom spent two dynamic years in the sales and business development team, where he successfully managed relationships with industry giants BHP and Fortescue.

Marissa Connolly

GENERAL Manager – People & Culture

Marissa is an accomplished human resources professional with a background in strategic and operational human resource management, leadership development, and extensive line management experience in industries including Construction, Engineering, Insurance, and Financial Services.

Her proven track record includes directing strategic initiatives and operational efficiencies aligned with business goals. Marissa has excelled in regional and national HR leadership across diverse industries, including public, private, and government-owned organizations such as CPB Contractors, UGL resources, Bankwest, and Western Power.

She holds a BA Honours in Business with a major in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, and Workforce Planning, accompanied by professional certifications like the Direct Trainers Award from the City and Guilds London Institute and DDI Facilitator certification for Leadership programs.

Tim Martin

HSE Manager

With over nineteen years of dedicated leadership in Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE), Tim leverages his expertise in risk management and regulatory compliance to foster a safety-centric culture. Armed with a Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety and a Graduate Certificate in Business Administration, Tim seamlessly navigates field operations and organizational management.

Joining Schlam in 2023, Tim brings insights from diverse roles in major corporations, resorts, and heavy construction environments. His commitment extends beyond conventional safety measures, prioritizing both individual well-being and environmental sustainability.

At Schlam, Tim focuses on developing tailored Safety and Risk Management systems to meet unique objectives. His mission is to cultivate a workplace culture where team members not only adhere to protocols but also deeply value safety and environmental responsibility.

Quinton Ellis

Finance Manager

Quinton embarked on his professional journey in public practice, cultivating valuable experience in audit and business services, eventually achieving the distinction of becoming a Chartered Accountant. His time in London was pivotal, exposing him to a diverse array of multinational businesses and contributing significantly to his career advancement.

Upon returning home, Quinton played integral roles in well-regarded companies, broadening his expertise in manufacturing/engineering, mine support services, facilities maintenance, and public practice. With a public practice background, Quinton approaches commercial applications with a methodical and comprehensive mindset. Recognized for his adept mentoring and collaborative skills, he consistently seeks to enhance the businesses he engages with.

Quinton holds a Bachelor of Business degree with a Double Major in Accounting and Business Law.


Matt Rigby



Mathew Rigby is a results-oriented management professional with a passion for change, building new businesses and creating high-performance teams. With over 25 years of experience in the mining equipment industry, Mat has demonstrated major success in driving change and improvement during periods of business growth. 

Tenacious in forging strong relationships among his team, Mat most recently led Schlam to become certified as a ‘Great Place to Work®’ – just six months after being awarded the 2022 RISE Business Awards – Western Australian Employer of the Year.

A safety-focused, intuitive leader who inspires high productivity, Mat is passionate about developing people and supporting this team to grow beyond what they think is possible

Daniel Hilmi, Fabrication Services Manager



Daniel launched his career in heavy fabrication, starting from the ground up. His unwavering work ethic propelled him from an HME Supervisor to the esteemed position of Superintendent in the engineering industry. 

Upon joining Schlam as the Fabrication Services Manager, Dan’s exceptional managerial skills and expert knowledge have been instrumental in driving Schlam Cru to its resounding success today. 

With a wealth of experience both in hands-on work and overseeing a large, geographically dispersed workforce, Dan has grown the business beyond expectations.



Cameron began his trade as a highly-skilled HD fitter, and after a brief stint in the defense force, returned to the mining sector. With his exceptional leadership abilities, he quickly rose to the position of Coordinator, overseeing a vast workforce of remote employees.

Cameron’s remarkable talent for managing people has played a vital role in his success as the Mechanical Service Manager at Schlam Cru. Undoubtedly, Cameron has significantly impacted the company’s trajectory of growth and achievement.

Nicole La Galia

General Manager People & Culture 

Nicole brings over 20 years’ experience as a people leader with expertise in transforming, developing, coaching, mentoring and leading high performing and culturally diverse teams.

Her proven skills cover the full Team Member lifecycle spectrum from sourcing to retention. Some of Nicole’s career highlights include Warrikal Pty Ltd as Head of People and Culture, Seven West Media (WA), DRA Global as Vice President/Head of People Culture for Asia Pacific and Americas., Lycopodium Limited as General Manager – People which is a multi-office company through Africa, Australia, Canada and the Philippines and also Managerial positions at Energy Resourcing (formerly a Worley Company) and Chandler Macleod Group. Nicole’s career has taken her all over the world and developed her skills in integrating people strategies, change management plans and an ability to engage and drive an inclusive workforce.
